Our mission:
The mission of Heart in Education Teacher Outreach (HETO) is to provide professional development and material support to teachers in Honduras by partnering them with Indiana teachers and schools.
We accomplish this goal by:
Recruiting and taking Indiana teachers to Honduras twice a year on one week educational brigades to work in critically under-funded elementary and high schools. During the one-week brigade trip, Indiana teachers model new lessons and instructional techniques, conduct professional development workshops, and deliver much needed supplies and resources to the Honduran teachers and students.
Before the trip, the Indiana teachers are matched with one of 11 HETO partner schools in Honduras. Although Indiana teachers have the opportunity to work in all HETO schools while on the brigade, they focus their pre-trip planning and post-trip service work around the needs of their partner school. HETO encourages Indiana teachers

to include their own students in these plans and projects, thereby bringing service learning, real-world problem solving, and cultural studies into the classroom.
We invite you to explore our website to find out more information on how to become a HETO teacher or support our cause through monetary and in-kind donations. Come work with us to help Honduran teachers and students achieve more!
